Peer Support DM Line

The Peer Support Chat is a texting line designated for non-emergency support of individuals and their loved ones, peer support and community resource connections. The staff of this warmline are highly-trained individuals equipped to support others and bring their own lived experience to each conversation. Our goal with this initiative is to empower the community by providing resources and peer support, while maintaining the confidentiality of those seeking help.
In the past, our Peer Support Staff have supported individuals:

Supported individuals who simply want someone to talk to at the moment
Listened to people's stories
Assisted in accessing/finding mental health resources
Supported in connected individuals with shared stories
Answered questions with regards to mental health

Community Resource Connection

The Community Resource Connection initiative is designed to provide personalized and community-based mental health resources to individuals who need support. This initiative is centered around the idea that mental health resources should be tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. We recognize that it is difficult to know where to start finding reliable, accessible, and culturally-sensitive resources. In order to access this resource, individuals can reach out to The Tesfa Project via our Peer Support Chat line. Once an individual has reached out, they will be connected with advocates who will create a personalized document of appropriate resources. Our goal with this initiative is to increase access to mental health care and reduce the barriers that prevent individuals from seeking help.

Voicemail Line

Inspired by @at.thebeep, the purpose of this voicemail line is to allow you to speak from your heart and mind - anything that you would like for us to share with the world. The aim of this project is to show the experience of our community through a phone line. Every Tuesday, a voicemail will be selected and shared on our social media platforms, while maintaining the confidentiality of the individual.

Tesfa Project Community Discord

The Tesfa Project Discord initiative is a supportive community where people can connect with others who have similar mental health experiences. We recognize that many individuals may not have access to in-person support groups or may prefer the anonymity and convenience of an online community. The community is moderated by volunteers and members of the Tesfa Project Leadership team who will ensure that the community is a safe and welcoming space. Individuals can connect with others who understand their experiences, share their stories, ask for help, and access educational resources and activities. Our goal with this initiative is to create a space for a supportive and safe community where individuals can connect with peers, share their experiences, and feel less isolated in their mental health journey.

Mental Health Professionals Database

The Mental Health Professionals Database is the largest-known resource of licensed Eritrean and Ethiopian therapists, counselors, psychiatrists, and psychologists. The resource is designed to help individuals find mental health professionals who share their language, cultural background, and experiences. The database allows individuals to search for mental health professionals in their local area, ensuring that they have access to support that is convenient and relevant to their needs. Our goal with this resource is to increase access to culturally-sensitive mental health care and support individuals in their mental health journey from the Eritrean and Ethiopian community.
